By Thursday morning I decided to scrap my planned Goler / Mengal run and go back out there to mess with the repeater, this time on the motorcycle. Once again Henry joined me and this time Tony/tonyj joined us on his new 640. While Henry rode down to the springs for testing with a known-good radio Tony and I rode over to Hunter Cabin. Tony had never stopped there so I figured I could show him something new.

Today I did an oil change and addressed the side stand. As mentioned earlier the side stand mount had been bent since I owned the bike and has only gotten worse. I tried to pound it back into place but that did not hold, clearly the metal was fatigued.
Here it is out of place. It should be one solid line, not bent outward like this.
Rode the bike an additional 50 miles last night. I did my old standby midnight ride that I haven’t done in nearly a year, a tour of Wilmington (including a bit of dirt road!), over the Henry Ford Bridge to Terminal Island, across the Vincent Thomas bridge to San Pedro, then a circuit through some of the more fun roads of Palos Verdes before going home.
There’s a few things to see along the way.
I had one more minor setback today but got it taken care of.
You can see how the kickstand tab has bent outward, this was causing the bike to lean over far enough for the carb to overflow. I had always thought this bike leaned over a bit further than it should, apparently that stand was already bent and bent even further on me.
So as I mentioned before I put the bike all back together and found major shifting issues. I was also unable to kick start it and found several vacuum leaks. Well, I fixed some of that.
