Winching the Widow Maker

Here is a video of me winching a widow maker tree that was hanging over 2N49.  This tree fell in a recent wind storm and left a large, heavy portion hung up in the canopy of another tree directly over the trial.  It was a high priority to take this remnant down before it fell on its own.

To remove it I used my Warn M800 winch, chain (only use chain when working with static loads, not shock loads like vehicle-to-vehicle recovery), and snatch blocks.  I then cut the tree branches with an axe and winched the tree to the side of the trail.

July Adopt-A-Trail

Posted on by 2 comments

July’s Adopt-A-Trail schedule originally called for 2N04 work but due to the Lake Fire we were forced to relocate to 2N49.  WE still had a great time and got some good work in.

Wagoneer Tail Lamps

Posted on by 0 comment

Well a little project I’d always wanted to do was to give my red Jeep tail lamps from an XJ Wagoneer because the all red lenses would look nice with my red body.  I finally found a good set at the yard so it was time to pop them in and modify the wiring back there to use them properly.

The right hand tail lamp is a Wagoneer lamp, the left side is a standard US Spec Cherokee lamp.

My first Jeep!

Well after always wanting a 4×4 vehicle I bought a 1989 Jeep Cherokee for $4,600.00. It was nice and clean with only a bit of fender damage to the right front and a perfect interior. I’d never really given Cherokees much thought before then, I only chose it because I wanted a mid-sized vehicle that was in budget.

I’m glad I bought it, even if it has tortured me from time to time.
