Beheading the KLR

Tonight I worked more toward tearing down the KLR powerplant.

So I started out by checking the valve clearances, all were okay. Then I beheaded it.

Lots of carbon on that piston and head. That will be fun to clean off. The cylinder walls are a bit glazed but otherwise visually look okay.

Next up I pulled the jug and left side covers. Not shown in this picture is me taking it down clear to the case.

Next I took the clutch cover off because I wanted to see the oil strainer. As expected I found some metal in the oil filter housing. The strainer looked worse.

Yikes.

That was all for tonight. I need to pull the clutch, etc. off then split the cases and see how deep the rabbit hole goes.

Anybody got a cheap motorcycle?
